Professional & Operational Services

Evidence-led support for working dog organisations

Search Dogs UK works with professional teams and organisations to develop, review and improve working dog training systems.

Support is shaped around the operational objective, the conditions in which teams must work and the performance that needs to be achieved.

Training-aid and target-odour review

Evaluation of whether the materials used in training are likely to represent the operational target adequately.

This is particularly important where the target changes over time or where training aids differ from what dogs may encounter operationally.

The current victim detection research proposal explores this exact issue, including discrimination between human, animal-derived and commercial training aids, generalisation between odour sources and the operational relevance of training materials.
