Terms & Conditions
Last updated: September 2026
These Terms & Conditions apply to courses, training and related services provided by Search Dogs UK. By making a booking, you agree to these terms.
1. Bookings
Places on Search Dogs UK courses are subject to availability.
It is the handler's responsibility to read the course information and entry requirements before booking and to ensure that both the handler and dog are suitable for the course.
A booking is not confirmed until the required payment has been made through our booking system.
2. Course Fees and Payment
Course fees are displayed at the time of booking.
The course fee may be paid in full or, where offered, by instalments.
For courses where an instalment option is available:
-
three-day courses may be paid in three instalments;
-
two-day courses may be paid in two instalments; and
-
one-day courses are paid in one payment.
Choosing to pay by instalments is a payment plan for the full course fee. It is not a pay-as-you-go arrangement, and each instalment does not relate to an individual training day.
By booking a course using an instalment plan, you are agreeing to pay the full course fee, subject to the cancellation terms below.
All instalments must be paid according to the payment schedule provided at the time of booking.
3. Cancellations and Refunds
If you need to cancel your place, you must contact Search Dogs UK as soon as possible.
If you cancel at least six weeks before the scheduled start date of the course, you will receive a full refund of course fees already paid and no further instalments will be due.
If you cancel within six weeks of the course start date, no refund will be given and the full course fee remains payable. If you are paying by instalments, any remaining instalments will still be due.
This is because course places are limited and a place cancelled at short notice may not be able to be filled.
Course bookings cannot be transferred to another course, another date or another person.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your statutory rights.
4. Cancellation or Changes by Search Dogs UK
Occasionally, circumstances outside our control may mean that a course needs to be cancelled, postponed or changed.
If Search Dogs UK cancels a course, participants will be offered the option of transferring their booking to an alternative available date or receiving a refund of the course fees paid.
Search Dogs UK will make reasonable efforts to provide as much notice as possible of any significant changes.
We are not responsible for additional costs incurred by participants in connection with attending a course, such as travel or accommodation costs, except where required by law.
5. Course Entry Requirements
Some Search Dogs UK courses have specific entry requirements or prerequisite skills.
These are shown on the relevant course page.
It is the handler's responsibility to ensure that their dog meets these requirements before booking.
If you are unsure whether a course is appropriate for you or your dog, please contact Search Dogs UK before booking.
6. Dogs Attending Training
Handlers remain responsible for their dogs at all times while attending Search Dogs UK training.
Dogs must be appropriately managed and kept under suitable control for the environment and activity.
Handlers must follow reasonable instructions given by Search Dogs UK trainers, particularly where these relate to the safety and welfare of dogs, handlers, trainers or other participants.
If your dog has behavioural needs, including reactivity towards dogs or people, please contact Search Dogs UK before booking so that we can discuss whether the course environment is appropriate.
Search Dogs UK reserves the right to stop a dog or handler participating in an activity where continuing would present an unreasonable safety or welfare risk.
7. Health and Welfare
Dogs attending training must be fit and well enough to participate in the activities involved.
Dogs showing signs of infectious or contagious illness should not attend.
The welfare of the dog must come first throughout training. Handlers should inform the trainer of any relevant health, physical or behavioural considerations that could affect their dog's participation.
If you are unsure whether your dog is fit to participate, appropriate veterinary advice should be sought before attending.
8. Handler Age
Bookings must be made by a person aged 18 or over, and handlers attending courses must be aged 18 or over.
9. Safety and Participation
Search dog training involves practical activities with dogs and may take place indoors or outdoors and in a variety of search environments.
Participants are expected to follow instructions provided by trainers and take reasonable care of themselves, their dogs and others.
Handlers are responsible for bringing appropriate clothing, footwear and equipment for the course and conditions.
10. Photography and Video
Photographs and video may be taken during Search Dogs UK courses for training, educational or promotional purposes.
We will seek permission before using identifiable photographs or video of you for promotional purposes, including on our website or social media.
You can decline permission for promotional photography or video without this affecting your participation in the course.
11. Personal Property
Participants are responsible for their own belongings and equipment while attending a course.
Search Dogs UK cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal property except where liability cannot legally be excluded.
12. Liability
Search Dogs UK will take reasonable care in delivering its courses and maintaining a suitable training environment.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Participants remain responsible for their own actions and for the supervision, handling and welfare of their dogs.
13. Personal Information
Personal information provided when making a booking, enquiry or attending a course will be handled in accordance with the Search Dogs UK Privacy Policy.
