Aim
To teach handlers how to use variable reinforcement while maintaining confident, persistent and reliable search behaviour.
What you'll work towards
Handlers should be able to introduce and adjust a variable reinforcement schedule while the dog remains motivated to search and maintains its trained indication.
What we'll cover
Using variable reinforcement effectively while maintaining motivation, persistence, reliable indications and consistent performance during searches.
Before you attend
Dogs should have an established indication and maintain it for at least five seconds without physically interfering with the target odour.
Physical interference includes licking, scratching, pawing, mouthing or attempting to retrieve the
hide.
The dog can search a 3 m × 3 m area and find 1–3 hides without false indications when the handler knows where the hides are located.
