Aim
To develop a clear, transferable protocol for systematic route and external searches, adapted to the individual dog-and-handler team.
What you'll work towards
The dog should search a defined route or external area systematically on cue and indicate when target odour is located. The handler should follow a planned protocol and accurately record searched sections.
What we'll cover
Planning and completing systematic route and external searches using appropriate handling methods, clear boundaries and accurate search records.
Before you attend
Dogs should have an established indication and maintain it for at least five seconds without physically interfering with the target odour.
Physical interference includes licking, scratching, pawing, mouthing or attempting to retrieve the
hide.
The dog can search a 3 m × 3 m area and find 1–3 hides without false indications when the handler knows where the hides are located.
