Aim
To develop a clear, transferable protocol for systematic room and building searches, adaptable for on- or off-lead work.
What you'll work towards
The dog should search each area independently on cue and indicate when target odour is located. The handler should follow a planned protocol and accurately record the searched areas.
What we'll cover
Planning and completing systematic room and building searches using clear protocols, appropriate handling methods and accurate search records.
Before you attend
Dogs should have an established indication and maintain it for at least five seconds without physically interfering with the target odour.
Physical interference includes licking, scratching, pawing, mouthing or attempting to retrieve the
hide.
The dog can search a 3 m × 3 m area and find 1–3 hides without false indications when the handler knows where the hides are located.
